Edited by: Mos Superum on 25/11/2007 05:02:29 I'm posting a relative EVE newbie, plus I'm trying to help folks who bet on the 7-page thread minimum cash in on their wagers.
One of the big questions being posted in here seems to be -- is the heavy interdictor going to clear out lowsec? Scare off newbs exploring and looking to do lowsec ratting? Hauling? Mission running?
In my first 5 months of playing (casual player, btw), I've been very lucky with lowsec ratting in cheap frigs and cruisers. I do the obvious things like check for podkills, check for average traffic over the past 30 minutes, etc. Once, I was nearly scrambled in an Iteron II while I was trying to get some loot/salvage out of low-sec, but it was a 1-man camp and I had fitted a WCS just to cover my ass. Otherwise, I've been very lucky.
Basically, in off and on lowsec ratting in 5 months, I haven't been gate camped except the half-ass one time effort. Additionally, as a newb, I've almost ALWAYS been told that fitting WCS on combat ships is a no-no/faux pas. Finally, at some point, one has to assume that one will EVENTUALLY run into a proper lowsec gate camp as a newb.
In my mind, this talk about the heavy interdictor special ability running off newbs in lowsec may be all moot. What about this heavy interdictor is going to change the nature of the camp? What about it is going to run off newbs in lowsec that aren't already being run off by multi-ship gate camps that have to work together to put the scrambling points onto, say, a cheap T1 frigate or cruiser? It seems to me that the heavy 'dictor just makes the gate camp a little smaller. Either way -- if I'm not doing the chicken sh** thing and fitting a WCS on a combat ship, I'm getting stopped. Does the heavy interdictor really change that?
Just wanted to share my thoughts on this. I think the "infinite" part of the focusing script is what's setting a lot of discussion here off. But those thinking that newbs are going to leave lowsec -- I'm not sure. I fly through a lot of empty 0.4 and 0.3 space already.
That said, I understand this would be very bad for haulers, right? And what happens if someone floods the market (I'm totally clueless on cost/skill training requirements) with these ships and they start showing up more than regular gate camps?
Just some thoughts from one of the newb players that, I think, some folks in here are concerned about running out of lowsec. I think letting the issue play itself out, as one of the last posters mentioned, is important. If highsec to lowsec routes get totally jammed up with these new ships, as a newb who would like to get through and operate in lowsec, yeah -- that'd be irritating. But I'm willing to wait and see before screaming for ye olde nerf bat.
My piddly newbish 2 cents.
